Carl Orff was born in Germany on July 10, 1895.  In the 1900s, he helped to create an approach to teaching music that emphasies the inclusion of singing, rhythmic speech or chants, poems, movement, instrument playing and improvisation with a goal of developing lifelong musicianship. Students  sing, dance, clap, pat, snap and play to the melodies and rhythms.
